Various outlets are reporting that, because we as a people have not suffered enough, James Cameron surprised the folks at CinemaCon in Las Vegas on Thursday when he announced four sequels to “Avatar.”

As the Hollywood Reporter noted, “Cameron said as he was planning the three sequels, he found it limiting. ‘We began to bump up against the limitations for our art form,’ he said, explaining that he decided he would need more installments to tell the whole story.”

The movies are slated to appear in 2018, 2020, 2022 and 2023.  The original earned $2.8 billion worldwide, which is a whole lot of money. Many, many people saw this movie, but, as many have joked, try to name one line or two characters from it.

I never reviewed it but I saw it at the Bob Bullock and walked out about halfway through, dizzy, with a headache, completely uninterested in the story and thinking, “OK, I can do IMAX or I can do 3-D but I cannot do both at the same time without making myself all kinds of sick.”

“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” is currently coming up on $2.1 billion.
