“Pee-wee’s Big Holiday,” “Preacher” TV series to debut at SXSW Film 2016

The South by Southwest Film Conference and Festival announced Thursday a handful of titles set to screen at the 2016 event.

The flicks include:

Pee-Wee's_Big_Holiday_logoJohn Lee’s “Pee-wee’s Big Holiday” starring Paul Reubens as your boy Pee-Wee. Netflix is distributing.

“Tony Robbins: I Am Not Your Guru,” Joe Berlinger’s  doc on the self-help titan.

Irene Taylor Brodsky’s “Beware the Slenderman,” a look at murder, internet memes and the deadly intersection therein.

Athina Rachel Tsangari’s festival favorite “Chevalier.”

Over in TV, SXSW has Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg’s adaptation of the fan-fave Vertigo comic book “Preacher” for AMC. Here is the trailer.

These films join the previously announced opening night film, Richard Linklater’s “Everybody Wants Some.”

Feature films (except Midnighters) will be announced Feb. 2.

Midnighters, all short films, and music videos will be announced Feb. 9. SXSW is an official qualifying festival for the Academy Awards Short Film competition. The Best Narrative Short, Best Documentary Short and Best Animated Short winners become eligible for the Academy Awards.

SXSW 2016 takes place March 11 to 20 in Austin.
