“Pixels,” the new sci-fi adventure comedy from Columbia Pictures and Adam Sandler’s Happy Madison Productions, isn’t nearly as funny as it ought to be. But that’s not to say it isn’t fun.
In the film, aliens receive transmissions of an early 1980s video game tournament and take the signals as a declaration of war. When they attack Earth in the form of 8-bit video game characters, a rag-tag group of heroes is assembled. Its four members don identical jump suits, arm up with hand-held laser cannons and set off to defend New York City.
