Slapstick ‘Minions’ serves up laughs in spite of weak story (Our grade: C+)

Watching Illumination Entertainment’s “Despicable Me” franchise prequel “Minions” is a bit like eating a Twinkie — which, by the way, the taller creatures resemble.

The first bite tastes — let’s face it — awesome, but each successive chomp provides diminishing returns. And while neither the antics of the tiny, yellow, pill-shaped creatures in overalls nor the sugary snack cakes leave a particularly bad taste in your mouth, you can’t help but suspect that both are probably best in small doses.
