According to a site called MCU Exchange “Selma” director Ava DuVernay hired to direct “Black Panther,” the upcoming Marvel/Disney film about the Marvel superhero Black Panther, a.k.a. T’Challa, king of the technologically advanced
nation of Wakanda, occasional Avenger and all-around awesome fellow. We await confirmation from Marvel or DuVernay.
It was known that Marvel was looking hard at DuVernay to direct the movie, which would make her the first African-American and first woman director for the Marvel Cinematic Universe franchise (made up of the Iron Man, Captain America, Thor Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy movies, so far).
Chadwick Boseman (“Get On Up,” “42”) has been cast as T’Challa,
Black Panther and Wakanda are rumored to be part of “Captain America: Civil War,” which is shooting now. We saw references to Wakanda (and Vibranium, the crucial-to-the-Marvel-Universe mineral it mines) in “Avengers: Age of Ultron.”
For those looking to bone up on crucial Panther storylines, I suggest
“Black Panther” is slated to hit the screen July 6, 2018.
